****** Important Notice ****** The Planning Commission Meeting for November 18 is scheduled for 6PM at 224 W Winton Room 160
Approval of the ADOPTION OF THE SIXTH CYCLE HOUSING ELEMENT OF THE ALAMEDA COUNTY GENERAL PLAN is on the agenda.
WHY THIS MATTERS: If adopted, portions of the respective communities’ existing General and Specific Plans would be unilaterally updated to incorporate the proposed higher density residential housing rezoning. Public comment to proposed developments would, in many cases, be replaced with nearly automatic project approvals through “ministerial review” provided the proposal met the “objective criteria” defined by the Planning Department. The state of California may withhold County-designated funds to “encourage” adoption of the state-reviewed Housing Element. With the deadline approaching, your comments are important. If you cannot attend in person, please attend virtually using the provided Zoom link. If your schedule does not permit attendance, please submit a written statement so that your voice is heard (email: housing.element@acgov.org and copy your Supervisor).
The Castro Valley, Eden Area and Fairview MACs all voted against the adoption of the Housing Element document as it presently stands.
Pasted below is a link to the agenda and attachments. If you plan to attend, please review these items as the documents are lengthy and complex. Be prepared for shortened speaker time. This item drew a lot of public comment at the respective MAC meetings and some of them limited each speaker’s time.
